This medieval fantasy RPG is free to play, has over 100 hours of content, and can be yours if you have Skyrim in your library

The RPG genre is one that has practically always had great titles to boast of. Since the great classics of the 90s Even true giants like Skyrim, those of us who enjoy them have always been well fed. Today I want to recommend one that may not be as well known as it deserves, but that is a real past and you can have it free forever.

Enderal: Forgotten Stories is the name of the game that I come to recommend today. It started life as a mere mod for fifth The Elder Scrolls, but over time it’s become its own thing, and it’s an absolute pass. With an original world and script, no resources have been spared to turn this work into a separate game completely removed from Skyrim, to the point that it has its own mechanics and systems.

But what does Enderal have that other big Skyrim mods don’t? For starters, he’s not in Tamriel, the world of The Elder Scrolls, but rather strays from his roots to bring a setting of its own. Its open world has its own lore and landscapes created to be unique and varied: deserts, heaths, forests, jungles, mountains, and much more. With all this variety, its authors say that you will have more than 100 hours of play.

Its story is not the typical plot about dragons, magical creatures and saving the world, but its creators define it as unconventional, and populated with credible characters with a lot of emphasis on your psychology. It is, of course, a deep title that takes influences from the greatest RPG hits to create a powerful and not at all bland cast of characters.

It borders on perfection with a 97 on Metacritic, it's one of the best RPGs ever, and it's on sale for a limited time.

On a mechanical level, it also seeks to distance itself from its father, with several unique classes, its own ability systems and survival mechanics that make it a different playable experience than Skyrim. As you can see, this is the tone of the work: based on the Bethesda role-playing game, but with an ambition rarely seen on this side of the fan industry.

Not content with that, the members of the SureAI studio have also brought a cast of professional dubbing actors to bring their characters to life (although unfortunately these voices are only available in English and German). This, along with its own original soundtrack, makes this title a complete video game, not just a simple mod.

If all this appeals to you, you only have one requirement to meet: own skyrim. You will have to choose between Enderal: Forgotten Stories and Enderal: Forgotten Stories Special Edition depending on which version of Skyrim you own. The special edition also comes with extra graphics improvements, stability and technical fixes. Whichever version you choose, you will not have to pay a single penny for it.
