Get more FPS in Dead Island 2 for PC with four “dumb” graphics settings tab

It seems incredible, but Dead Island 2 is finally among us. If you’re playing it on PC, in fact, you’re doubly in luck because Dambuster has put together a fairly well-optimized version; you don’t need a hardware too expensive for run it at 60 FPS (takes the minimum and recommended requirements as a rough approximation) and also comes with a shader preloading phase that comes in handy. Our colleague Alejandro Pascual ended up happy with Dead Island 2 beyond the technical side, so it was worth the wait.

Now, it’s no secret that fish tanks don’t settle for merely “correct” results, and if you want to get more out of the game, you’re in the right place. Under these lines you have our ideal configuration settings to achieve optimal performance on PC, although it never hurts to experiment a little on your computer. Dead Island 2 does not have benchmark integratedso you’ll need to use the MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience overlay or some similar tool if you’re going to do tests.

Dead Island 2 System Requirements

A few weeks ago, Deep Silver shared the requirements table for Dead Island 2 through his website, and at that time things looked average: an i9-9900K to play at 1080p and 60 FPS may be a bit of an exaggeration, but you see. that in the end you don’t need anything too exaggerated. Illustratively, during the writing of the article I have used equipment supplied by the Nvidia comrades that includes an RTX 3080, an i9-10900K and 32 GB of RAM. Playing at 1440p without super resolution, I average 99% 98 FPS.

It is also recommended to download the 531.68 driver from Nvidia.

Recommended graphics settings

These are the General adjustments of Dead Island 2, and most of them depend on your preferences: they have a rather relative impact on performance, if at all. I recommend you use your default settings and do some tests in one of the programs mentioned above to see which one is you average FPS, and then manually close the frame rate to just below that number. For example, if you average 72 FPS, you might want to set the limit at 60FPS. If the number is very low (~30) it adds motion blur.

Closing the game at 60 FPS is easy to achieve even on mid-range rigs, but if you’re going for 120 then you’ll have to play with FSR 2 and up.

Dead Island 2 runs on the Unreal Engine 4 engine, with which we are very familiar because it is one of the most common and versatile in the entire video game industry. No unnecessary ray-tracing-style complications or hard-to-measure parameters, we’re pretty much going here with what we’d call “jack, knight, and king” – knowing that sometimes the game consumes about ~7 GB of VRAM, it’s a good idea to tone down the textures and viewing distance a bit; but bet on the shadows and lights where it makes sense. Avoid downsampling with FSR, if you can.
