Now, Amazon Games makes the leap to that gargantuan Legendarium with the first Lord of the Rings MMO in more than 20 years with a team that lives up to what is expected of the license.
This has been announced by Amazon Games in a press release to 3DJuegosPC. In the text shared with the media, it is specified that, indeed, Jeff Bezos’s Americans will give birth to a massive online multiplayer based on the highly complex Legendarium by JRR Tolkien with Amazon Games Orange County, creators of New World, at the helm.
“We are committed to bring gamers high-quality games, whether through original IPs or beloved games like The Lord of the Rings,” said Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games. “Bringing gamers a new vision of The Lord of the Rings of the Rings has long been an aspiration of our team, and we are honored and grateful that Middle-earth Enterprises entrusted us with this iconic world.”
The MMO is currently in an early pre-production phase.
Of course, for those of you who have in mind the hodgepodge that the British license represents today, you will be surprised that Amazon Games is at the head of the project when Embracer Groups acquired Middle Earth Enterprises in 2022. And it is that, according to what Amazon has communicated, this project supposes an alliance with Embracer Group for a AAA development that will seek to supply the need for bets of huge budget Tolkien’s Middle Earth.
