The ‘Negreira case’ has become one of the most controversial episodes in Spanish football. In the video that accompanies this news item, the journalist specializing in judicial information, Jesús García Bueno, details five possible scenarios in which FC Barcelona could see itself in the future, both at a sporting, administrative and judicial level.
This Wednesday the Extraordinary General Assembly will take place for which LaLiga will analyze the consequences of the ‘Negreira case’, the criminal process opened against the Catalan club for the payment of 7.3 million euros to companies related to the then vice president of the Technical Arbitration Committee , José María Enríquez Negreira, between 2001 and 2018.
The professional clubs await explanations for a case that has affected the image and credibility of Spanish football, encouraged these days by the presidents of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, and Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, who this week have led an extra-sports debate after Laporta’s statements this Monday accusing the Madrid club of being the “regime’s team”.
During the press conference called by the president of FC Barcelona, Laporta tried to defend the Barcelona entity in the ‘Negreira’ case and insisted that Barça is suffering a “media lynching”, in addition to accusing Real Madrid of “unprecedented cynicism” for appearing in the case and assured that there were 643 reports and 43 CDs that were “important and necessary” to clarify the case .
More than two months have passed since the case was opened, in which LaLiga clubs and even the government through the Higher Sports Council have appeared. In addition, UEFA is carrying out an investigation of its own by the Ethics and Disciplinary panel. In an interview with the Slovenian magazine Ekipa, the organization’s president, Slovenian lawyer Aleksander Ceferin, declared that the situation is “so serious that it seems to me that it is one of the most serious cases in football since I take care of him.”
There are still many questions in the air regarding the ‘Negreira case’ and, as detailed in the video, everything indicates that FC Barcelona will soon find out what type of sanctions it will face and what measures it will undertake in a case in which the image of the club has been seriously damaged.
