Getafe announced this morning the dismissal of Quique Sánchez Flores. The poor results achieved in recent games have once again placed the Madrid club on the brink of relegation after having overcome a first crisis of results in the return to competition after the World Cup in Qatar. “The Madrid coach and his coaching staff cease to belong to the Azulona entity. From the Club we thank you for the commitment and professionalism that you have shown since your arrival with this club, and his dedication at all times ”, read the brief letter from the Azulona entity.

Getafe president Ángel Torres has never been very prone to coach dismissals and put up with Quique during the first part of the season, when the results were already not good. The coach, who managed to stay last year after joining the team when it was bottom of the table, thus closes his third cycle as Getafe coach. The defeat last Sunday against Mallorca (3-1) already stirred up the rumors of his dismissal after some statements in which he questioned his players “We could choose well or choose shit and we have chosen shit”, declared the azulones coach, visibly annoyed by his team’s performance after a second half in which he conceded three goals.
Wednesday’s setback at the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum against Almería (1-2), a direct rival for salvation, has been decisive for Ángel Torres to opt for relief. The new coach should already be there for next Sunday’s crucial visit to Espanyol, also involved in the fight not to be relegated.
