Luis Mollá (Cartagena, 1955) has been a ship captain in the Spanish Navy for 45 years, nine of them for NATO. He has spent more than half his life traveling and, consequently, many of the clashes between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, so important for a culé like him, have caught him “in unusual places”. “One of the happiest memories I have is the 2-1 victory against Real Madrid in 1991. I was on a Venezuelan beach at twelve noon drinking beers with half a body in the water,” he told the fan channel . However, his first colors were not the azulgranas: “My treasure was a sticker of Didí, a Brazilian footballer from Real Zaragoza who had entered the house in a drum of detergent.”
This true story, which we received in EL PAÍS through the Fan Channel, has served as an inspiration to Javier Olivares (Madrid, 1964), cartoonist and illustrator who received the National Comic Award in 2015 for Las Meninas, author of more than twenty titles, the most recent, with a script by Jorge Carrión, Warburg & Beach (Salamander Graphic, 2021). This comic is an adaptation that draws both from Mollá’s biography and from other stories published in EsLaLiga about the repercussion of El Clásico in the world. Because El Clásico is truly a planetary match.
