Basketball King’s Cup draw: Real Madrid – Valencia and Barcelona – Unicaja | Sports

The raffle of the Copa del Rey basketball matched Real Madrid – Valencia and Barcelona – Unicaja in the quarterfinals. Whites and Barcelona have fallen on the same side of the box, so they would meet in a hypothetical semifinal. The other two seeds, Baskonia and Tenerife, will face Joventut and Gran Canaria respectively. The Basques will have to deal with the host, while the quarterfinals will also host a Canarian derby.

The competition will be held between February 16 and 19 at the Palau Olímpic, home of Joventut de Badalona. Rubén Guijarro, mayor of the city, has assured that they are “very excited” to host the tournament and that “Badalona will throw itself into the organization on and off the pitch”.

Badalona has not hosted a Cup since the 1984-1985 season, in an edition in which La Penya was a finalist, losing in the Ausiàs March pavilion against Real Madrid by 90-76. Barcelona will defend the title they won last year in Granada, with Nikola Mirotic proclaimed MVP. The Catalans have been champions in four of the last five editions. In this five-year period, only the one from 2020, which Real Madrid raised in Malaga, escaped him.
