Aitana Bonmatí, two goals and MVP in the Super Cup final: “I carry leadership within me” | Sports

The great protagonist of the Super Cup final won this Sunday by Barcelona against Real Sociedad was Aitana Bonmatí, who with two goals was chosen as the MVP of the match, and added her third double of the season. “The leadership that I have on the pitch is always inside me. I have character and I am ambitious. Every year I grow more and try to give my best. I never settle”, commented the player once the match was over.

The Barça Super Cup was their third, surpassing Levante (twice champion) in the list of winners. The good weather at the Romano José Fouto stadium in Mérida accompanied the victory of Jonatan Giráldez’s players, where a total of 6,339 spectators saw Marta Torrejón lift the fifteenth title. The defense collected the trophy in the authorities’ box, delivered by the president of the Spanish Federation, Luis Rubiales, and went down to the pitch, where Sandra Paños was waiting for them. The concierge escorted her to the dais and raised her glass next to her. “The game has been controlled and shows that the matches can be resolved the way we want. The match we played is worthwhile”, said Paños. “The team has made an extra effort. We have fought to win this title. The goal is to lift trophies and we started with this one,” she added.

The Catalans formed a circle around the cup and sang the Barça anthem. Patri Guijarro, with the club’s flag on her shoulders, was the one who stood out the most in that celebration. “I have asked my family for the flag to celebrate with the fans. They deserve it,” he stated. “We are euphoric, very happy. It is one of the objectives and we are going for more ”, he added. Jonatan Giráldez added another medal to his short career – he came to office in July 2021 – under the command of the women’s section of Barcelona. “Winning a title in the middle of the season motivates and rewards at the same time. We have been working for weeks to be fit and fight for this title. I am very happy with all the work we have done and for the players. Our mission is to continue growing. We have been superior to Real at all times, ”he commented. “Now it’s time to enjoy the title”, stressed the Galician coach.

There were also congratulatory words from the Real Sociedad coach, Natalia Arroyo. “Barcelona has been a clear champion. Their players deserve it, ”she declared into the microphones. Before the final began, he had also remembered his rival on the opposite bench, Jonatan Giráldez, a friend and former teammate on the Catalan team, where they both met. “If he wins, he will be happy. And if he comes out happy, I will be very happy for him, ”he concluded.
